Foam Tape

Foam tapes combine a compressible foam carrier with adhesive to sound-dampen, insulate, gasket, cushion and seal. They help improve both the appearance and the performance of a product design. Foam tape resists moisture, UV light and solvents, and its bond strength helps compensate for differing thermal expansion between joined parts.

SyncSol offers foam tapes in a variety of thicknesses, adhesives, carriers and sizes, including acrylic, EPDM, EVA and PE foam tapes. Density, thickness, adhesive system and cell structure all vary, so it pays to match the tape's properties closely to the application.

About Foam Tape

Foam carriers fall into two broad families. Open-cell foams — such as polyester and polyether urethane, microcellular foams, melamine and polyimide — have interconnected cells that make them soft and breathable, suited to cushioning and acoustic damping. Closed-cell foams — such as silicone, PVC, neoprene blends, cross-linked PE, EPDM blends, EVA, nitrile blends and cork — have sealed cells that block air and water, making them the usual choice for sealing and gasketing.

Solid rubbers, including natural rubber, SBR, butyl, EPDM, silicone, neoprene and nitrile, are an alternative where a denser, non-cellular material is needed. Choosing between them comes down to the compression, sealing and environmental demands of the joint.
